The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging research facilities were established as a result of an NIH Functional Brain Imaging initiative (1990). The facilities are in the Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh. The PET Facility became fully operational in 1992.
